Fall Family Photos — Documentary-style!

Fall Family Photos — Documentary-style!

A family of five makes for a very lively session — and, as you’ll see, a fun one!

We kicked off with a few posed photos, and then jumped into a more relaxed documentary-style approach. This type of photography is great for families with kids because the photo session becomes a time to explore and play. These photos will capture the excitement, wonder, and mischief inherent to childhood in ways that ‘formal’ photos may not.

Every family member is different, and a documentary shoot brings each of your personalities to the surface and lets them shine. So, if you’re five years old and your passions include showing off your superhero skills to anyone who will watch (see below), then this is the right place for you!

Sometimes preteens aren’t too fond of standing for posed photos — but it’s not so bad if you get to hang out in a tree and do your own thing for a while.

Meanwhile, this little guy wanted to do nothing more than show off his super-cool Spiderman gloves! I added a little creative editing to match his imagination — action movie-style!

Who needs posing instructions? Certainly not this gal — I didn’t have to direct her at all! She’s a natural.

I think that she should be everyone’s role model in terms of being confident for the camera.

These two weren’t thrilled about posing together — but when their little sister came into the picture, it was a different story!

I loved watching the oldest come out of his shell — he wasn’t into this whole photoshoot idea at all — until he got to play with his sister! At that point, his reservations evaporated, and he was all smiles. I’m glad I was able to help make the photoshoot environment comfortable for him.

Now, getting those last bursts of energy out before dusk settles in and it’s time to go home.
