F A Q

What should I wear to my photoshoot?

Bottom line: anything that you love! If you feel like a million bucks, it’s a good choice.

If you would like further guidance, I recommend that you:

  • Choose colors that complement your skin tone. Neutral tones such as whites, creams, grays, and natural blues and greens look superb in outdoor settings. More vivid colors such as reds, yellows, and turquoise add pop and interest.
  • Coordinate colors between family members. Outfits do not have to match exactly, but do choose colors and tones that compliment each other.
  • If you have jewelry you’d like to highlight in your photos, that’s great! You can always add or remove it during your shoot for more variety in your photos.
  • Avoid neon (especially above the waist), as the light it reflects can create an unflattering color cast on your skin.
  • Watch out for hair ties on your wrists! Make sure you take them off before we begin our session.
Can I bring special items to my photoshoot?

Absolutely! Please bring anything that has personal significance. Your photos become even more meaningful, and they will take on a character that is unique to you. I’m all for that!

I plan each session ahead of time, so please let me know what you would like to bring in advance.

Some examples of special items:

  • Your vehicle
  • Jewelry/clothing
  • Instruments
  • Sporting/hobby items
  • And many more!

Ideas for props:

  • Flowers: a fresh-cut handful; a basket full of petals (to toss!); head wreaths/headbands; a grass bouquet
  • Dried leaves (great for fall)
  • A wagon (such as a red Radio Flyer) — great for little kids!
What about pets?

Well-behaved pets are always welcome.

Be sure they have a safe and secure place to hang out while they are not being photographed. (I cannot hold a leash and a camera at the same time!) Dogs that are too big to hold should be able to sit and stay patiently on command.

I also love horses, and would be thrilled to include your equine companions in your shoot!

Do you retouch photos?

Yes! Your photos are timeless, but your transient skin blemishes won’t be. This service is included with all photos.

My rule of thumb for retouching is that if the blemish is temporary, I will either remove it or make it more subtle. Best of all, your final image will look completely natural — you won’t be able to tell that your photos are retouched!

If you would like to approach your photos differently — more retouching or less — please let me know before our session, and I will work with you.

What is your COVID-19 policy?

The comfort and safety of my clients is my top priority.

Though the mask mandate has been lifted in New Mexico, I am still sensitive to the needs of my clients. If, for any reason, you would like me to wear a mask during our session, let me know ahead of time and I’ll be happy to do so!

If I feel ill or have had any known or possible exposure to COVID-19 before our shoot, I will let you know and we can reschedule, free of charge. I encourage you to do the same.

I’m happy to answer any other questions you may have!
